You are an exorcist, a devoted servant who executes Church’s orders. One day you receive an order to exorcise some possesed girl. When you finally meet her, it turns out that she is very lonely and she sold her soul to a demon of her own will, in exchange the demon has to be her friend and care for her. What do you do?

I watch as the little girl plays with her toys. She’s just like every other little girl, making up little stories with her dollies. Except this time the Knight isn’t the good guy. The dragon is. The reason I was called was because this girl was apparently possessed. Yes. I felt the unholy energy the moment I entered the room, but I do not see a little girl that is possessed.

I see a lonely little girl who felt the Church couldn’t give her the help that she needed. So, she turned to someone else. Someone else to protect her, to keep her safe from the ones who called me here. Her parents.

I go closer, but still stay a good distance back as I was asked to when I first entered the room. “Suzie?” I ask.

“Yes?” The little one responds. Her voice is still clear as day, no hint of possession in it.

“May I speak to… Aylward is his name,  yes?” I asked, unsure if I pronounced it correctly.

She nodded again. “You’re nice.. Nicer than other people mama and daddy got to come talk to me.. You’re not gonna take him away, right??” She asked, hesitance in her voice. She did not want to go back to how it was before. She did not want to be alone again, to be afraid.

“I promise.” I nod, “I just would like to speak with him.”

Suzie looks hesitant, but nods. She closes her eyes, taking a deep breath. When she opens them again, no longer are they that baby blue, but now pure black. No iris, no white. Just black.

“You wish to speak with me?” The voice was different. This was what I expected when I first walked in here. A deep resounding voice that would laugh cruelly as I began to try and get them out of this child and back to hell. But.. Now my agenda was different.

“Yes, thank you for allowing me to speak with you. Aylward.. Your name means protector, right?”

Aylward nods. “Suzie called for someone like me. The Angels did not answer, so I took it upon myself to do so.”

“And judging by what I’ve been told, you don’t possess her constantly, only when she’s in danger.” My eyes dart over to the door where I know the parents are waiting.

“Correct. I keep her safe. You will not take me away from her.” The light flickers a bit and I feel the unholy energy inside the room increase its pressure.

I give a pleasant smile. “I have no intentions of doing so. I have a proposition. I am… similar to Suzie. I am sure you could tell.”

“I thought it was your power granted by the Church.”

I laugh a little bit. A common misconception. “The Church is.. a part of it, I will admit. But they cannot give us the power. Some are born with it, yes. A divine intervention during their birth. However, others like me… We must be bonded to an Angel. Most of us die during the process. I, obviously, did not. Willmena is my Angel. She has helped me many, many times… and now, we both want to help you and Suzie.”

“…why?” Alyward looked untrusting. Understandable. I was an Agent of the Church, and he a spirit of Hell, using the body of a child to speak with me. Normally this would have devolved into me shouting the scriptures while Suzie’s body contorted as Aylward fought to stay.

“The moment I walked into this house, I smelt the alcohol. I saw the bills piling up on the tables. I even saw drug related things before coming here. This is not a proper establishment for a child. I… also saw the bruises. Suzie hid them when she noticed I had seen them. It took all my willpower to stop Willmena from emitting a holy fire from my body.”

“Why..?” Aylward said again, seeming utterly confused.

“Well, it hurts like hell and I just bought this jacket and you can’t return ashes.” I shrug, a joke obviously.

“That’s not what I meant, and you know it.” Alyward said. “Why do you want to not send me away?”

“If you wanted to, you could have already sent me out of this room. You didn’t. We both want the same thing as well. Suzie to be safe and happy. I can make that happen.”

Aylward was silent. I knew what this meant, suzie and he were conversing silently.

Are you sure this is a good way to go about this?

I’m positive Willmena. Plus, you’re still itching to set out that holy fire, I can feel it trying to start at my fingers.

Her… birth givers are–.

I know. But we need to wait until she’s out of the home, and I can set up something.

“Um…” I look back, Suzie is in control once more. “W.. Will you really not take Aylward away??? Will you take us somewhere safe??”

I nod. “I promise.”

And that was all it took, Suzie was already getting her miniscule belongings into a Little Mermaid backpack. She looked at me, hugging her princess dolly to her chest. She seemed to just remember her parents. “What about..”

I smile. I felt my eyes turning that ice blue. “Do not worry, sweet heart. Let me help you to my car first.”

Ignoring her parents demands on what happened and to stop, I took Suzie to my car. “ There is some water in the cooler and some snacks! Help yourself sweetie, I’ll be back in a moment.” I then turned back to the house, marching right back in. I felt Willmena take over.

When I came back to the car, I had to dig out another jacket from the trunk. “Seriously, I thought she wouldn’t do any holy fire.” I muttered, getting into the drivers seat.

“W-what did you do??” I heard Suzie ask.

I turn around and saw her dragon plushie was floating beside her. Aylward had moved to there apparently. I gave both of them a smile, “Willmena and I spoke with your parents. They have agreed to release you into my care.” I hold up the signed paper work. “Though it did take some… convincing, they were still more than willing to do so after I explained what would happen if they did not.” I mused with a smile.

I could feel Aylward smile. He knew what had happened in there.

While Willmena did not kill them, she made them wish she had. Holy magic can be something horrible when used against those bad souls. Making them relive their worst nightmare, showing them the place they will end up if they continue upon this path…. It made Suzie’s father weep. I did not feel for the man.

“My collogues will be here to check on them in a month or so, see if they have… improved. But at any rate, you are released into my care. So… Suzie. Aylward. Shall we go home?”

Suzie sniffled, hugging Aylward close. “Y-yes please..”

“Will do.” And I drove down the street, turning left. Leaving that horrid home behind.

Never give up..

“Listen Rosie, Hogwarts isn’t like your elementary school. The professors are a lot harder on you, but that’s only because the magic we have is a dangerous gift and they want you to be able to control it the best you can. Most of the professors will still be willing to help you however they can. A witch or wizard untrained can be disastrous.” Jacob said as he leaned back, looking up at the starry sky.

“But you said most..”Rosie said, hugging her legs. She was only a couple years away from going to Hogwarts.

“Well.. There is Professor Snape.” Jacob set up, rubbing the back of his head. He grimaced remembering how Snape almost took away fifty points from Ravenclaw for him messing up an extremely finicky potion. Took out a table with that failure..

“But hey.” He pulled his little sister into a one-armed hug. “By the time you get there, I’ll be in my final year. I’ll be able to help you. And get you on the quidditch team. You’ll be as great a flier as I am!” He let out a loud laugh. “Just remember. An Albright never gives in.”

“Never gives up!!” Rosie finished, with a little too much excitement.

Jacob laughed again, ruffling her hair, “That’s right!”

           “Kid, you ok?”

Rosie let out a small grumble as she opened her eyes. She was leaning against a pillar, hugging her charms book to her chest. She had just tried to take a quick power nap, but judging by how empty the hall was, it was a lot longer than a nap. She looked at the one who woke her up and saw the hooded guy she often saw around the castle.

He went around doing odd jobs, taking supplies around the castle or going to Hogsmeade to get deliveries for the kitchens. He never really talked around the students, only people Rosie had ever seen him talk to were Dumbledore or Flitwick.

“”m fine… just slept longer than I had expected… And apparently missed my class..” She sighed. At least it was Flitwick’s class. He’d understand easier.

The Hooded figured appraised her and shook his head, “You’re pale. You need to go to the Hospital wing, just to check and make sure it’s nothing bad.”

“I’m fin-“ Rosie started, but he held up his hand.

“Save it, kid. I know there’s a cold or something going around the castle. Damn place is drafty as Merlin’s undergarments.” He huffed. “Albright, right? I’ve heard your name around from the professors. Causing trouble but let’s not have a sickness be a reason you get points taken away. Don’t want any more people blaming you for stuff you can’t control like that damned brother of yours.”

Rosie flared up, “D-don’t talk about Jacob like that!” She said, “He may have gotten in trouble and stuff bu-but he was a great brother! You didn’t even… even..” She had stood too quickly and had gotten light headed.

The hooded figure caught her before she fell. “Looks like it’s more than cold.” He huffed. “I’ll take you Madame Pomfrey… She’ll get ya sorted out, Albright.”

Rosie wanted to protest, but she could barely lift her head without getting dizzy now. She found herself nuzzling into the familiar embrace, drifting out of consciousness.

The hooded figure entered the hospital wing and Madame Pomfrey was about to tell him to leave, but then she saw Rosie, “!! Put her on the bed!” She ordered.

He nodded, going to put her on the bed. He was about to leave, but Rosie had gripped his sleeve in her hand. He looked down at her, she was still asleep. Though he could tell she definitely had a fever now.

           “J-Jacob…” she whimpered softly.

The Hooded figure sighed and gently reached down, getting his sleeve free. He gently brushed her bangs off her face. “you need to forget him kid… just a loon he was… Forget him and move on…” He murmured. “you need anything from me, Madame Pomfrey?”

She shook her head, already getting her stuff to give the sick first year a check-up, “I’m fine. You can leave. Go back about your duties.”

He nodded and left, quietly closing the door behind him.
